Help me plan this cocktail reception please!

I am going to school for culinary arts and a function I was assigned has a theme for a murder mystery cocktail reception for 70-75 people.

I've no clue where to begin. I got food ideas but need to know how to put this all together.

I'd very much appreciate your help and any assistance.

My response:

I'm not sure what you're looking for in terms of a cocktail reception - it sounds like something where the theme doesn't drive the event, it's more optional.

The games I talk about here are full-on murder mystery games, where your guests are completely immersed in solving the mystery or playing the game.

If that sounds like the kind of thing that you are interested in, then I suggest you check out some of the tips and articles on my site. For example, I've written about large murder mystery games in this article about fund raising.

If you want something lower key, then you might try adapting one of the Mysteries-on-the-Net games. They involve several key suspects with full backgrounds and everyone else is a detective. For a cocktail function that might work fine.
