I'm about to turn 16 next year and am already thinking about planning it.
I'm pretty much set on the idea of a murder mystery party but I'm not quite sure what this involves.
I know you download them off the internet and that's fine, but I don't really understand it. Do you get a script or do you just go along with it? What's the best group size? How many boys and girls do i need to make it interesting? How do I give out the information? How do I get people to engage in it? Shall I be the host or get a friend or parent to do it?
I would quite like to know which ones would suit me best. Obviously I would like on that is very realistic and easy to have fun, but also one which has to be thought about , and at the same time there cant be extremely adult themes, but adult enough to make it exciting. It also has to be able to be hosted in my house, which is not very big, so has to have a storyline which is set in many parts so people can be in two or more rooms at once.
My response:
Hi - there are lots of different types and styles of murder mystery game, but the ones I like best are the interactive games that I describe on my site.
They don't have a script, but instead you "become" the character for the evening and it's up to you what you do and say.
As for numbers, there are all sizes of games so you can probably find one that suits. And yes, most of the games do require a mixture of boys and girls (although there are a couple that are all-girl). There are also a number of "clean" games, if you're worried about the adult content (although none of the games are explicit - it's just that some of them refer to affairs or drugs and alcohol).
(And as it's your party, I suggest that you get someone else to host it! That way you can play!)
You've obviously got quite a few questions - I suggest, however, that you have a look around my site. I suggest starting with this page: Choosing a murder mystery game, and then going on from there.
Backstage Business - a 1980s rock music themed murder mystery for 18-22 guests.
Here's my suggested quick route through the site:
Step 1 - Go to Choosing a Game to choose the game that suits your party best.
Step 2 - Review the Tips for Hosts for helpful advice.
Step 3 - If you want to keep up to date with the latest murder mystery game news, click on my What's New page.
Step 4 - Once you've had your party - tell me how it went! Click here to tell me your murder mystery party story.
