the story

Cover for The Show Must Go On

The Show Must Go On! is a short, introductory murder mystery full of amateur dramatics set in an English village. It is ideal as an introductory murder mystery game , and can be played in no more than an hour. The host can even play as well!

The story: In seven days, the curtain rises for the opening night of the Haberford Amateur Dramatic Society’s refreshing take on Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. However, one of their lead actors, Edna Crossley, was found dead two days ago: she had been murdered!

Now, with one week to go, the company meets in the village hall to find a replacement for Edna. Thanks to HADS’ inclusive casting policy, anyone can audition for any role—no matter their age, race, gender or experience. (Edna, playing teenage Juliet, was in her fifties.) Competition is likely to be fierce!

But why is Detective Morgan Camberwell here? Surely they can’t think that Edna’s murderer is here? (Bet you can't guess!)

how The Show Must Go On! works

The Show Must Go On! is an interactive murder mystery game, so each player receives a detailed character background including full backstory, objectives for them to achieve, and information about the other players.

Unlike most other games from Freeform Games, The Show Must Go On! can be played in an hour - including reading characters, briefing and the debrief. So you could play it as part of a longer party - or even with your work colleagues in your lunch break!

the details

In The Show Must Go On! the host organises the game - but they can also play a character. (That's up to them - they can choose just to be the host if they want.)

I really enjoy hosting - you know what's going on and can watch your friends scheme and plot and be devious to one another.
