New years eve pub party

by Allie

I have read inforamtion contained on your site, and find it very interesting. I hosted a MM party some years ago with great success but it was only a private part for about 20 people.

I have been asked if I would organise a MM party for the local pub on NY eve. I dont have a clue where to start - not knowing how many will actually turn up, should we charge an entrance fee, what type of party to host, should there only be a few characters and then everyone else questions them during the evening so that people who do not want to join in don't have to but can still come in for a drink.

Please help!
What would you suggest?

My response:

Goodness - that's quite a challenge. I think you need to make some fundamental decisions...

First, are you going to charge for it? If you do, you should get committed guests, but you will put some people off. If you charge for it, then you probably want to send out invitations - and give customers a chance to costume.

If you do charge, then you will need to purchase a commercial license for the games...

(Oh - and a downside of charging is that your customers will come with high expectations!)

Will there be dedicated space for the murder mystery, or will it have to mingle in and around regular visitors? (If you haven't got a dedicated space, I'm not sure a murder mystery is the right thing to do.)

If you can get 20-40 or so dedicated murder mystery players, then I suggest going for one of the interactive games on my site.

If you're not sure about that, then I suggest one of the "interviewing suspects" style murder mysteries, as they only require a handful of dedicated players and everyone else is a guest.

I hope that helps!
