Pirate themed murder mystery for 30-40 players

Can I change characters in Murder at the Sea with pirate theme characters?

I'm looking for a pirate themed murder dinner for around 30-40 guests.

My response:

Murder at Sea would require a significant amount of work to change it to a pirate theme. The game is set at the outbreak of the First World War, and I can't really see how to easily change that to a pirate theme.

And I don't know of any pirate themed murder mystery games of that size.

However, if you're prepared to put a bit of work in adding extra characters, you could look at A Dead Man's Chest.

At first glance A Dead Man's Chest is only for up to 16 guests. However, when you buy the game you also get access to some extra characters that have been written by previous customers - and for A Dead Man's Chest there are 12 of them.

(I should warn you that in my opinion some of the characters are a bit uneven, but if you give them to the right person - someone willing to give it a go - then they should be fine.)

That takes you up to 28 characters, so you could then just write some of your own (which I suspect would be less effort than trying to re-theme Murder at Sea).
