Can you customize a game to add more parts?

We would like to play a pirate-themed game with 20 adults + host.

Can we have the game customized to include more players?

What do you recommend?

My response:

The two pirate murder mystery games I talk about on my site are A Dead Man's Chest (for 12-16 players plus one host) and Davy Jones' Locker (for 10-16 guests plus one host).

While at first it may seem that neither are for enough players, you have a couple of options.

The first is that you can write your own extra characters. This is perfectly possible, and I've written an article about adding your own characters to a murder mystery game.

If you do that, and Freeform Games (the publishers of both A Dead Man's Chest and Davy Jones' Locker) like the characters, they will give you a free game as a reward.

They will then make those characters available for other hosts to use.

Which brings me to your other option - you use the extra characters that other hosts have written in your game.

Although I don't talk about them on the site, there are 10 extra characters for A Dead Man's Chest and five extra characters for Davy Jones' Locker.

This means you could choose either game, and both will cater for 20 players and a host. (Although I suggest you pick A Dead Man's Chest as you have more options when it comes to choosing which characters to use.

The free extra characters are available after you buy the game, when you download the main game files from Freeform Games.

Don't know where to start?

Here's my suggested quick route through the site:

Step 1 - Go to Choosing a Game to choose the game that suits your party best.

Step 2 - Review the Tips for Hosts for helpful advice.

Step 3 - If you want to keep up to date with the latest murder mystery game news, click on my What's New page.
