As a host of a murder mystery party, you organise everything and run the game.
And for many of the games on this site, you don't play the game in the same way as everyone else. Instead, you manage the flow of the game and things like timetabled events.
(In a way, you're bit like the DM for a large game of Dungeons & Dragons.)
But what if you want to play a character as well?
While I've written about hosting and playing a character here, there are some games that are specifically designed for the host to play.
These murder mystery games can be played by host.
Reunion with Death is set at a 15-year high-school reunion, in smallish-town America. Former students are gathering in the town's main hotel, ahead of the big party tonight.
But one of them, former prom queen Mikolette Lukanis, has been found murdered in the hotel swimming pool!
Reunion with Death is a modern day game for for 6-9 people.
The Show Must Go On! is an English village amateur dramatic themed murder mystery game.
In seven days, the curtain rises for the opening night of the Haberford Amateur Dramatic Society’s refreshing take on Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. However, one of their lead actors, Edna Crossley, was found dead two days ago: she had been murdered!
The Show Must Go On! is for 9-13 people and can be played in an hour.
In The Final Curtain actor Vincent Royle dies mysteriously on stage - and Scotland Yard believes it's murder.
However, the show must go on and the next night the Littledean Theatre Company are called together to celebrate Vincent's life and also to answer questions posted by Inspector Blewitt.
The Final Curtain is set in 1926 and is for 7 to 14 people (including the host).
Last night at the glamorous Venice Film Festival, controversial director Clay McFarland picked up the prestigious Golden Lion award for this season's hit movie Never Look Back. But this morning, he was found lying in front of St Mark's Cathedral – hacked to death with a meat cleaver.
The stars of the movie and their guests supposedly spent the night on the Casanova, their luxury yacht – but someone was up to no good. Traces of McFarland's blood found on the Casanova's dinghy mean that police are confident that the culprit is one of those now aboard the yacht.
Death in Venice is a modern-day murder mystery game for 5-9 people (including the host).
Following the suspicious death of Baroness Audry von Munchen, the fabulous von Munchen relics are being auctioned off.
In the absence of a legal heir, the proceeds are to go to her favourite charity - unless a claimant comes forward.
The Auction is a modern day murder mystery game for 12-40 people (including the host).
In The Last Gasp, the guest playing the murderer doesn’t know that they did it and the only place the murderer is listed is in the solution. Therefore, it’s easy to run that one and still try to solve the murder. (Just don’t read the solution – seal it in an envelope when you print it.)
The Last Gasp is a Victorian murder mystery game for 14-40 people (including the host).
An American cruise liner, the Libertania, is in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean when its Captain is murdered...
While you won’t be able to solve the murder (because you will need to know who did it), if you haven’t filled the game it’s easy to play one of the characters (Patrick Malloy – the priest) and just enjoy “hamming it up”.
Murder at Sea is a 1914 murder mystery for 17-33 guests, plus one host.
As for what the host actually does, I've written about that here.
