Wild West party - rookie host with guests of all ages

by Laurie
(Canada)

I love your site, very informative. I am hosting 19 people at my cottage for New Year's Eve ages 9 to 50.

About 50 percent adults and 50 percent kids, oldest kid is 12 and it's a mix of boys and girls.

I am a first time host and only played murder mystery once.

Looks like the way Wild West would make for a great night.

Before I purchase, do you think I have made the right choice or is there a better fit?

My response:

All the games on my site come with clear instructions and have been played by inexperienced hosts many, many times. So I don't think you need to worry about doing it for the first time.

The main question is the age of the kids - the eldest is 12 and I would hope they would manage Way out West without any difficulty. The youngest kids might needa little more direction from an adult (but thinking about my own 10 year old I think she would be fine), and if so so you might want to make sure they are partnered up with someone friendly who can help them.

(You might also want to cast your villain carefully.)

As for Way out West itself, luckily you can check out the free version before you buy. It's just the minimum number of characters. You do have to sign up to the Freeform Games newsletter, but you can then download Way out West and see if it's to your liking.

I've written about the free Way out West here.

I hope you do try Way out West - let me know how it goes!

Don't know where to start?

Here's my suggested quick route through the site:

Step 1 - Go to Choosing a Game to choose the game that suits your party best.

Step 2 - Review the Tips for Hosts for helpful advice.

Step 3 - If you want to keep up to date with the latest murder mystery game news, click on my What's New page.
